I'm a glaciologist, climate and environmental scientist. My research concentrates on improving our understanding of processes driving climate-glacier interactions to enhance our knowledge of the climate system in the past, present and future.

Methodologically I combine in-situ observations with physically based numerical models to assess climate-glacier sensitivities and quantify them on different spatial and temporal scales.

Complementary to the office tasks I perform field work at remote places
, where organising ability and mountaineering skills are preconditioned. International connections to research groups focusing atmospheric and cryospheric sciences improve concepts, methods and results.

My general interests go beyond my scientific expertise. I understand my research as a small piece of the global puzzle: How do we address global climate change? "Climate change is one of the few scientific theories that makes us examine the whole basis of the modern society. It is a challenge that has politicians arguing, sets nations against each other, queries individual lifestyle choices, and ultimatively asks questions about humanity's relationship with the rest of the planet" (Maslin, 2014: xvii).
